Puppets can be used to enhance reading.  Take a look at the simple to the more complex examples.  Which is best for your age group?

Puppets are a good thing to have in your arts and crafts treasure box.  They are inexpensive, easy for you and your library participants to create, and work well in storytelling and as an art project.  You just need a little imagination.

Materials Needed:

Lunch Bag, Construction Paper, Scissors, Glue.  You can also add optional items such as yarn, magazine pics, etc.

There are a number of good puppet making sources online. Here are a few of my favorites:

Marionettes

I created this Marionette from recycled materials several years ago.  It is easy!  It's inexpensive!
The head is created from a styrafoam ball attached to a styrafoam cup.
The hands are created from clear straws which are pushed through the
styrafoam cup.  The straws are cut into two separate pieces and attached
with brads.  Brads are also used to decorate the vest and shoes (paper
towel rolls cut to size).  They are also used to attach the straw legs.
Foam containers are cut and glued to the
straws to create the hands.  String is pulled through the 2 straws-
overlaid-and attached with a brad.  The overlaid straws form
a handle for the moving strings which manipulate the head and arms.
Scrape fabrics are used

The following project takes a little mor patience but it's a lot of fun!

How to use the Bobble Head

You can use the Bobble Head to tell stories.

Participants can hold their Bobble Head up in the air at a special word at Storytime.

Children can invite their own puppet story or short story using the puppets.
