This was done a while back for a school
holiday program at the library. It came as a pack and only needed to be
decorated. The split pins allow movement and the straw at the back added
support. Some kids got together and made a storyline at the end of the
activity! Suman Savur |

Noell and I made our projects together since we work at the same library. We decided to make recycled art projects with a community theme. The kids would use boxes, paper plates, construction paper, beads, markers, etc. to make different buildings from our community.
Our idea was to have different community members come in to talk about what they do, possibly read the kids a story, and then the kids would create the building that the speaker works in. We thought it would be a great way to introduce the concepts of community, business, and even writing an address. The speaker would bring in pictures of their place of business, and hand out a business card that the kids would be able to use in the design of their project. The kids could either try to design a recycled art project that would look like that building, or they could create their own interpretation of what that building could look like. I created the library building that tried to copy what the real library looks like, and Noell made the very creative Aurelio's Pizza. We're really enjoying the new ideas we're gaining from the class!
